The word ‘entrepreneur’ is extremely overused in modern day society. Working your way up the entrepreneurial ladder and reaching the top is how you will create entrepreneurial success for generations.
People often go into business because they are good at what they do. However, what you often discover is that you’ve just created yourself a job.
The Entrepreneurial Ladder:
- Employee
- Self-Employed
- Manager
- Owner
- Investor
The education system churns out ‘worker bees’ – employees who go out and do the work. This is where we all start out our working lives.
You may then branch out and start your own business; you then become self-employed.
Napoleon – “We Are a Nation of Shopkeepers”. 70% of our economy are single-person businesses.
However, being self-employed can become counterproductive because you end up doing everything yourself. In reality, you’ve brought yourself a job.
You become so busy doing everything in your business that you need to hire some people. You then become tied up in man-management and need to get past the self-belief of ‘only I can do this specific job’.
When you become an owner, your business can work autonomously without you. This is when you truly have a business.
Stephen Covey – “The First Thing You Should Do When You Start a Business Is Think About What. Your Exit Is” … You start considering this when you become a business owner.
As yourself:
- What does your business look like when it’s finished?
- What does your business look like in 100 years? (Be specific)
When you build a business, your aim should be to build generational wealth.
You’re then able to question whether you should invest in property, business, stocks and shares, etc. How is your money going to work for you? How will it take you from where you are now, to where you need to be?
At this point you’ve reached the top of the ladder. You’re an entrepreneur.
